Amy Blom

Amy Blom is a Zumba instructor, children’s ministry coordinator, mom, wife, and passionate mentor at Alpha Women’s Center of Grand Rapids (AWC).

Amy began volunteering at AWC events in 2013. In January 2014, she decided to attend AWC’s volunteer training, thinking her main interest would be helping in childcare. However, when she learned more about the Step Up Mentoring Program, she knew this was where she she wanted to get involved.

“I’ve been a teen mom, a single mom, a married mom, and every time I was pregnant it was unexpected,” Amy said. “I’ve been there. It’s hard.”

Amy felt called to encourage and walk alongside other women and moms as a mentor at AWC. “I was lucky enough to have support, so I want to pass that on to my clients and tell them yes, you can do this. Yes, it seems impossible, but it isn’t,” Amy said.

Amy, like many AWC mentors, is amazed by the strong bond that forms between herself and her clients. “My favorite part is walking into the waiting room and seeing a returning client looking genuinely happy to see me,” she said. “You develop real relationships.”
